After a few years of instability for a lot of LaLiga clubs, many may look at Villarreal with a lot of envy. They’ve qualified for the Champions League in back-to-back years, and recorded their best league finish in over a decade.
Marcelino departed after failing to agree on a new contract, and Iñigo Pérez joined from Rayo Vallecano, with an expectation that Villarreal would adopt a more front-footed, attacking style of play.
The Yellow Submarine are one of the best-run clubs in LaLiga right now, and amid a sea of financial struggles, they are in a fairly strong position. However, they have had a more frugal summer than many expected, and there could be some twists to come.
